The KO Blackjack Card Counting Technique

‘KO’ as you probably know stands for ‘Knock Out’ which is exactly what will happen to the dealer and the casino if you imply the technique successfully. You walk in, knock them out and get back home with more money you’ve left with. The name of the strategy, KO, also refers to the initials of its creators - Ken Fuchs and Olaf Vancura. When they have first revealed this strategy in their book, Knock-Out Blackjack: The Easiest Card-Counting System Ever Devised, the system has faced high criticism from professional players, because it seemed way too simple to be effective. The fact is, the strategy really works! It is even more effective when used together with perfect play on each hand strategy.

When compared to other card counting techniques, KO is regarded as an “unbalanced” system. This means that KO doesn’t involve assigning values to different card amounts that are added up to zero. In KO card strategy, the values are distributed as follows: 2-7 count as +1 each; 8-9 count as zero each; 10-A count as +1 each. This difference from conventional card counting systems means that the total value of all 52 cads in the deck is outweighed by positive values (cards 2-7) outweigh the negative. Thus, the system is unbalanced.

The betting strategy in KO counting system is based around the count of +2. When you reach this count it is time to raise or lower your bets. The higher is the count over+2 the more aggressive your betting should be. Correspondingly, the lower your count is below +2 the less you should bet.

An important aspect of any card counting system like KO is that you master the Basic Strategy Card technique. It may come as surprise but casinos actually allow players to use this technique and are fully aware of it. So as long as you keep up the phase and continue playing, casinos won’t restrict you from using this strategy. The KO counting system has a derivative form the official Basic Strategy Card in what concerns the aspect of insurance. Basic Strategy notes that you should never take insurance if the dealer has an Ace face up. When applying the KO system, you should always take insurance when your count is +3 or higher, and never - if you have a count of +2 or lower.

Free casino games: the history of gambling, part II

Find out more about free casino games and their exciting way from ancient time to modern gambling. Roulette, as a casino game also has a very interesting history. The word «roulette» means «a small wheel» in French. They have introduced the “Single 0″ to the game in 1842, and roulette was brought to America in that variation. The Americans have made their own version of the game, introducing the “Double 0″ to the wheel.

Thus, there were already two types of roulette - European and American. There are ongoing debates regarding the origin of the game itself. Some people claim that roulette was invented by Blaise Pascal, the French mathematician who lived in the 17th century. Other state that the game was introduced by the Chinese and brought to Europe by Dominican monks.

Regardless of its origin, roulette still is the most fascinating casino games today. Dice have been around for more than 20 centuries, being involved in numerous activities, ranging from gambling to religious rituals. Dice, as we know it now, are very popular due to the game called «craps». It was imported into France, where it got its modern name. “Craps” has derived from the word “crabs”, meaning “pair of ones”. The game was a huge success in America, where it was simplified into the present form and played on steam powered show boats.

Mistakes. I’ve made quite a few!

Now, if it’s one thing my father taught me that’s become a kinda guiding principle, it’s that people without math live their lives in a fog. They’ve got no idea what they’re doing. An’ you never see this more often than in a casino watching how people play the slot machines. The young fellah tells me to just let rip, so now I’m gonna give it to you straight and fast. You don’t like it. Well, you can do the other thing. At my time of life, I got no time for them as thinks they know better unless they’re buying me drinks. Then I reckon they’re buying my time - anyways, people in bars always seem more interesting when free alcohol kicks in.

So, here I am, playing video poker. I’m feeding the machine and keeping count of the number of times I do and don’t get winning combinations in the pay table. So, if I got me a winning hand, the law of averages says the odds of that happening again is poorer for the hands that come just after it. An’ that’s true for the reverse as well. The longer I go without a winning hand, the more likely a big hand gets.

vThese folk live in a dream world. You ever watch a Poker Dealer wash and shuffle a deck of 52 cards fairly. All the countries licensing video versions of card and dice games have laws. No country wants to kill the golden goose that’s laying all them tax eggs so they all want to see fair games. Players vote with their feet if they think a game’s crooked. But there’s no need to cheat. No matter how you cut it, the games make more’n enough money when played fairly. Even when serious professionals come out to play, the House has an edge.

So don’t you never fall into no gambler’s fallacy. There ain’t no deck of cards or dice that got a memory. They’re just the tools we use to gamble with. Sure these new video poker machines can have big memories but there ain’t no point to that. So I’ll be getting back to the free online video poker - I’m looking over a new game. Ain’t no reason to pay to play. Just browsing for now.

Wrap-play, Front-loading and Spooking in Blackjack

To the public at large, one of the most incomprehensible things about professional blackjack strategies is hole-card play. Hole-card play is not a single strategy, but a whole range of black jack strategies. The one feature that can be found in all of these strategies is that the player either knows the dealer’s hole card, or has valuable information about that hole card, whether it’s a paint or not. To most casual blackjack players, this seems absolutely incredible and impossible, unless there is some sort of cheating going on. But it’s not impossible, and in fact, most hole-card strategies are perfectly legal.

Hole-card players speak their own language and have their own heroes. Most consider blackjack card counting too weak to be worth the trouble. Many quickly attain notoriety in the casinos and a degree of fame among other pros that appreciate the rare skills they have developed. But let’s look at some of the forerunners of today’s players, describe some of the most common hole-card strategies, and get a historical overview of this type of legal strategy. James Grosjean’s Beyond Counting (now out of print, though a second edition has been announced) is widely regarded as the hole-carder’s bible. A meticulous mathematician, Grosjean was the first person to accurately figure out the hole-carder’s edge at blackjack with perfect reads and perfect play (just over 13 percent), and in addition to his work on blackjack, he provided some of the first detailed hole-card analyses of games like Three-Card Poker, Let It Ride, and Caribbean Stud Poker.

What is warp play? In the old days, dealers used to manually peek under their tens and aces to see if they had a blackjack before satisfying the players’ hands. This constant bending up of the corners on the tens and aces tended to put a warp into these cards if the casino did not change its decks frequently. An observant player could see the arc in a dealer’s hole card created by hours of bending the corners of the tens and aces. Warp play was simply using this information to make strategy decisions.

Then, Ken Uston’s Million Dollar Blackjack was published by SRS Publishing in 1981. In addition to everything Uston wrote about card counting and team play, Uston went into more detail about two of the hole-card techniques Wong had revealed the year before in Winning lnthout Counting: “spooking” and “front-loading.” Uston, in fact, had become quite adept as a hole-card player after his first book, The Big Player, was published in 1977.

Politics and gambling

As the asian edges closer to a recession, people have less money in their pockets and casino revenues are dropping. Many states rely on taxing those revenues. It makes better politics than taxing people directly. It legalized slot machines back in 2004 and sold a casino license to Don Barden for $50m. The Detroit businessman agreed to build a casino called the Majestic Star in Pittsburgh on the North Shore. Bad luck. He has no money. There’s been no work on the site for the last two months. . But now the legal problem is whether the Gaming Control Board can transfer the license to this new group. They’re supposed to hold free and open competitions for the license. It’’s a nightmare and the state is running short of money. If all else fails, there may have to be tax increases! No-one wants that. The construction workers are waiting for their pay. This is a real political headache. If Barden is allowed to go into bankruptcy, there’ll be pain all round. There’ll be a white elephant half-built shell that no other company can take over until the bankruptcy is cleared. Construction companies and their workers will get no more than a few cents on the dollar. So the Pennsylvanian politicians have found a new partner for Barden in the form of Chicago real estate billionaire Neil Bluhm He’s leading a new group called Pittsburgh Gaming Holdings LP.

Couple of Common Mistakes in Blackjack

Common mistake: The most common mistake beginners make is to stand too often on their stiff hands (12,13,14,15, and 16). Players are quite often afraid to hit these hands because every one of them could bust (make a total of 22 or more) with a single hit. But when the dealer has a high card (7, 8, 9,10, or ace) showing, your best odds of winning come from hitting and giving yourself a chance of making a better total.

Some rockies think the best way to play is to play the same way the dealer plays: Hit all sixteens and stand on all seventeens. This is not true. The object of the game is not to make a hand as close to 21 as possible, but to beat the dealer. Often the best way to do this is to stand with a low total, sometimes as low as 12.

Tip: Here’s how many players think: If I hit this 14, I risk busting my hand right here and now. But maybe the dealer has a 6 in the hole. It can happen that your hand can overcome opponent’s hand.

Every player is afraid that he will be responsible for his own loss. But that 14 you are holding is already in dire jeopardy when the dealer shows a 10 up. You must fight for the hand’s survival by taking the hit, giving it a chance of becoming a stronger hand against that 10. With a 14 against a 10, you must fight to the death.

On the other hand, if the dealer’s upcard is 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, and you are holding a stiff hand, you should stand. Since the dealer must hit his stiff hands, and chance busting even when you are stiff, hitting your weak hands is not advantageous against these weak upcards.

Tip to another common mistake: There are exceptions to these guidelines, as the actual basic strategy decision for any given hand is determined by working out all of the mathematical probabilities. But if you just consider this logic when studying the basic strategy charts, the pattern will become clear to you and it should not be too difficult to memorize.
